The Ceremony

INCLUSION

It is paramount to conduct a ceremony that is inclusive and does not push people away.  During “life cycle” events or at vulnerable times in their lives, people find themselves wanting to hold onto tradition.  Thus, halacha, or Jewish religious law, becomes especially important at this time.  Explaining the ceremony to those who may not be familiar with it is essential to making it inclusive and meaningful for all of its attendees.

EDUCATION

Recognizing that people come from various backgrounds and religious beliefs highlights the importance of the Brit Milah ceremony as a teachable moment.  For many new parents in particular, the Brit Milah is oftentimes the family’s first Jewish ritual.  Jewish education can remind people not only about elements of Judaism and their significance, but also stimulate people to view themselves as part of the Jewish community at large.  Most significantly, it reminds them that they are linked in a chain that has transcended the generations for thousands of years.

procedure

Dr. Waldman uses modern surgical technique and essentially brings the hospital to you!  She uses the same pre-packed sterile instruments, gloves, and disposable sharps that are used in hospitals today.  She believes in a compassionate protocol that entails local anesthesia, a sugar water solution, and Kosher wine to help comfort the baby during the procedure.
